Definition
Diamond Colour is a critical grading aspect in the evaluation of diamonds, primarily referring to the presence or absence of color in white diamonds. The industry uses a standardized color grading scale from D (colorless) to Z (light color), with colorless diamonds being the most sought after and valuable. The presence of color is a result of the chemical composition and the conditions in which the diamond was formed; even a slight hint of yellow or brown can significantly affect a diamond's value. Diamonds with less color are rarer and therefore more expensive. However, in the case of certain colored diamonds, known as fancy colors, the intensity of color can increase the diamond's value. These shades range from blue, green, yellow, pink to red and are evaluated on a separate color scale.
